Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An offshore area in the Baltic Sea between 55°50'N and 55°55'N.
The site is important for wintering and migrating waterbirds, especially wintering seaduck (including important numbers of
Clangula hyemalis, Gavia arctica and
Alca torda), totalling more than 20,000 individuals on a regular basis. The number of wintering
Polysticta stelleri varies according to different sources (300-1,200), but 800-1,000 individuals is the most recent estimate.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
In the near future, the Butingë oil terminal will be constructed near Palanga and oil pollution is therefore a potential threat.

International NoneThe southern part of the IBA falls within a marine strict nature reserve (Pajûris Regional Park).
