Marawah Island


Site description (2017 baseline):

Site location and context
It is a large nearshore island near Mirfa with extensive inter-tidal mudflats.

Key biodiversity
Important area for waterbirds like Curlew, Bar-tailed Godwit, Lesser Sand Plover, Kentish Plover and Western Reef Heron.

Other biodiversity: Dugongs, dolphins and occasional Hawksbill Turtle.

Habitat and land use
Part of the island has been used for habitation.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Disturbance, trespassing.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve.
