Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Crocodylus porosus and Chelonia mydas (MacKinnon et.al.1982, Silvus et.al.1986, Anon 1995b, Monk et.al.1997, Wibowo & Suyatno 1998)



Habitat and land use
Pulau Menipo covered by a very rare mangrove habitat in West Timor, and Ale Aisio is evergreen dry forest and savanna (Anon 1995b, BKSDA VII 1997). 5000 ha of this area are moist and grassy (rainy season), and around 5000 ha is dominated by Corypha utan, Borassus flabellifer. The rest of the area is coastal zone covered by palm, mangrove and fish ponds. Dataran Bena is one of sample which has grassy lowland (Anon 1995b)



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Road building, agricultural expansion, illegal hunting and shifting agriculture (Silvus et.al.1986)



Protected areas
Dataran Bena covered three conservation areas: Dataran Bena Game Reserve, Ale Aisio Wildlife Sanctuary and Pulau Menipo Recreation Park.- Bena Recreation Nature Park/Hunting Park (11000 ha) declared based on SK Menteri Pertanian 05/Kpts/Um/I/1978.- Ale Aisio Wildlife Sanctuary (5918 ha) declared based on SK Mentan 749/Kpts/UM/12/77.- Menipo Island Wildlife Sanctuary (3000 ha) declared based on SK Mentan 768/Kpts/Um/12/78(MacKinnon et.al. 1982, Anon 1995b, BKSDA VII 1997).
