Site summary
This hilly area includes the geographical unit of Malé Karpaty. The forests are mainly beech, oak or mixed. Important transitional habitats between forests, vineyards, and mosaic arable land exist here. Most of the area consists of mixed forest and woodland habitats, and is used for forestry, hunting, recreation and tourism. The foothill region exhibits a very representative farming character, especially the viticulture in the east of the region. Malé Karpaty is one of the most important nesting site for Saker Falcon, but it is also important for Imperial Eagle, Honey Buzzard, a number of woodpeckers and songbirds, especially hole nesters. Threats include intensive forestry and deforestation. The site is proposed as an SPA.
