Site description (2001 baseline):
Site location and context
The IBA is located in the Caspian Sea, to the south of the Volga delta.
A small island which holds a large number of colonial nesting birds.
The rising level of the Caspian Sea threatens to flood the area.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Ornithologists from the Astrakhan reserve carry out a monitoring programme of the breeding bird colonies.
