Site location and context
A small island in the River Tajo dominated by Tamarix and Populus riverine forest.



Key biodiversity
This is a very important site for breeding herons.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from disturbance from tourists and from seasonal fluctuations in water-levels.



Protected areas
National None International High4 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Río Tajo en Castrejon, Islasde Malpica del Tajo y Azután, 1,960 ha).
