Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A water-storage reservoir in south-eastern Bulgaria, which does not freeze in winter. It is surrounded by low hills covered by arable land (mainly winter wheat). Human activities include hunting, fishing and irrigation.
The site is important for wintering
Anser albifrons. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Phalacrocorax pygmeus (wintering).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Uncontrolled hunting of waterbirds is a serious threat.
