Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A large area of hay-meadows and arable land, that floods periodically, on the south bank of the Danube. Small stands of riverine forest and a large oxbow lake are included in the IBA.
The area holds one of the last remaining lowland populations of
Crex crex in Austria. Breeding success is currently very poor.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The meadows are threatened by conversion to arable land and intensification. They are currently cut 2-4 times annually and meadow bird species are threatened by early mowing, suffering low breeding success.
