Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large area of hay-meadows and arable land, that floods periodically, on the south bank of the Danube. Small stands of riverine forest and a large oxbow lake are included in the IBA.



Key biodiversity
The area holds one of the last remaining lowland populations of Crex crex in Austria. Breeding success is currently very poor.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The meadows are threatened by conversion to arable land and intensification. They are currently cut 2-4 times annually and meadow bird species are threatened by early mowing, suffering low breeding success.



Protected areas
National None International High920 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Machland Sud, 2,076 ha).
