Site description (2000 baseline)
A small area of farmland close to the Gulf of Bothnia. This open landscape is dominated by potato fields which are essential for staging geese. In years when spring flooding is heavy the area also attracts other staging waterbirds.
Key biodiversity
One of the best staging areas for Anser fabalis fabalis in Finland. Breeding birds are relatively scarce due to intensive farming practices. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Anser erythropus (max. 1 bird, passage), Haliaeetus albicilla (1-5 birds, passage).
