Site description (2000 baseline)
An extensive area of raised bog along the Luiro river. The area belongs to the aapa mire zone of Peräpohjola and comprises many types of mires. Characteristic are large areas of open-water bogs with high ridges between them. The forests are mainly poor, Pinus sylvestris-dominated heath-forests, but flood forests and Betula forests also occur along rivers.

Key biodiversity
An important area for boreal avifauna, especially for waders.
