Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An area of mudflats, beaches and offshore sand-dune islands on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony. The site featured in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989) as former site DE034, but also includes former site DE033 (Dollart; 5,000 ha).
A site of international importance for breeding, moulting, passage and wintering waterbirds, especially wildfowl (Anatidae) and waders.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include drilling for oil, and military training (`Other' threat).
National Partial
International PartialIBA overlaps with National Park. IBA overlaps with Ramsar Site and Biosphere Reserve.
