Lower Havel - Lake Schollene - Lake Gülpe


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large area of flood-plain, subject to irregular flooding by the River Havel, with Salix bushes, remnant alluvial forest, levees and the Schollener, Gülper and Pritzerber lakes.



Key biodiversity
The IBA is important as a stop-over site for passage wildfowl particularly geese (over 100,000 individuals), as well as being a migratory bottleneck, where up to 8,000 Grus grus regularly pass. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (non-breeding).



Protected areas
National Partial International High362 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Stremel NSG, 362 ha). Part of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Pritzerber See). 2,850 ha of IBA covered by Landscape Protected Area (Untere Havel, 21,940 ha). IBA overlaps with Ramsar Site. IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
