TH031
Lower Central Basin

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2004 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Painted Stork Mycteria leucocephala LC resident (2004) present A4i
Intermediate Egret Ardea intermedia LC non-breeding (2004) present A4i
Spot-billed Pelican Pelecanus philippensis NT non-breeding (2004) present A1
Grey-headed Lapwing Vanellus cinereus LC winter (2004) present A4i
Greater Spotted Eagle Clanga clanga VU winter (2004) present A1
White-browed Reed-warbler Acrocephalus tangorum VU winter (2004) present A1
A4iii Species group - waterbirds n/a unknown (2004) min 20,000 birds A4iii

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2004. The most recent assessment (2013) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2013 not assessed high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes unset unknown

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Pollution happening now some of population/area (10–49%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high
Human intrusions and disturbance happening now some of population/area (10–49%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high
Residential and commercial development happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Biological resource use past (and unlikely to return) and no longer limiting whole of population/area (>90%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Some of area covered (10–49%) A management plan exists, but it is out of date or not comprehensive Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low
