Site description (2000 baseline)
The Lobau is the western part of a large area of riverine forest associated with the Danube. It is divided by the Donau-Oder-Kanal into the Obere (Upper) and Untere (Lower) Lobau. The Obere Lobau is a mixture of agriculture and intensive forestry, but the Untere Lobau contains areas of near-natural forest. Both areas are used for recreational activities, angling and hunting.

Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding riverine forest species.
