Lianhuanhu Waterbird Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Lianhuanhu lake is located on the lower Nen Jiang river, and extends 60 km from north to south, and 20 km from east to west. Habitats include open water, marshes, meadows, plantations and agricultural areas. About 25,000-45,000 birds (mostly snipe and duck) are hunted in the IBA each year.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Mustela sibirica, Vulpes vulpes, Meles meles, Lepus capensis and Dipus annulatus



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a county-level nature reserve in 1986. This nature reserve is also a state-approved hunting ground for waterbirds, and the first international waterbird hunting ground in China. It includes four hunting sites, two sites for breeding birds and one tourism site.
