Site description (2009 baseline)
Located on the southern slope of the Himalayas. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with tropical evergreen rainforest (below 1,000 m), montane broadleaf evergreen forest (1,000-2,600 m), coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest (2,600-3,400 m), coniferous forest (3,400-4,100 m), rhododendron scrub (4,100-4,400 m), and high-mountain scrub and grassland (above 4,400 m).
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Presbytis entellus (a primate endemic to the Himalayas), Selenarctos thibetanus, Ursus arctos, Ailurus fulgens, Moschus chrysogaster and Capricornis sumatraensis.
