Site summary
The area occupies large flysh hills. Meadows and pastures regularly fragment the forest. Dominant habitats are spruce with the addition of fir, and mixed and oak forests to the east. Open agricultural and urban landscape borders the area. Almost a half of the area is used for military training. Levočské vrchy is used for forestry and hunting purposes. Non-forested areas are used mainly for sheep and cattle grazing. The area provides suitable conditions for a high diversity of bird species. It is one of the five most important areas for Corncrake and Golden Eagle in Slovakia. The main threat is an excessive disturbance of birds in the military zone. The site is not proposed as an SPA.
