Site description (2008 baseline)
This IBA is a bauxite hill, with the same unique flora and fauna as Brownsberg. It is covered with tropical rainforest on terra firma. The biodiversity is very high, but little research has been done. Lely mountains offer good conservation opportunities because of a relatively low human impact, and low accessebility.

Key biodiversity
The total number of species is 224 of which 25 are biome restricted. Hence this is an IBA on A3 criterion. The Crimson Fruitcrow is occuring in this IBA.

Non-bird biodiversity: Lely gebergte has a high species richness of both flora and fauna, 136 ants species, 37 dung beetles, 8 fishes, 20 amphibians, 16 reptiles, 14 bat, 3 small mammal and 13 large mammal species have been recorded during the RAP survey in 2005.
