Site location and context
An area of shoals in the central part of Lake Hjälmaren.
The site is also important as a stop-over site for
Larus minutus and
Chlidonias niger, especially during late summer.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
High levels of water quality are crucial to maintaining suitable conditions for breeding insects, upon which the gulls and terns feed. Large algal blooms may have a negative effect (`Other' threat).
