Site description (2007 baseline):
Site location and context
The site is composed of Uwakata and Shitakata, and its total area is about 44 ha, 5 m above the sea, average depth is about 1m. No river flows into Sakata, and the lake water is supported by rain water and water from springs through sand hills and pine tree forests. Reed beds are from Uwasakata to southwestern part of Honkata, and a community of Salix can also be seen at Uwasakata. Nelumbo nucifera form a big community, and Trapa japonica and Zizania latifolis grow in Hongata. Hydrophytes such as Marsilea quadrifolia, Euryale ferox, Monochoria korsakowii and Saururus chinensis are observed here.
