Lake McLarty

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2009 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Blue-billed Duck Oxyura australis LC non-breeding (1997–2007) 119 birds A1
Red-necked Avocet Recurvirostra novaehollandiae LC non-breeding (1994–2006) 251–5,468 birds A4i
Black-winged Stilt Himantopus himantopus LC breeding (1995–2005) 1,680–5,400 birds A4i
Red-capped Plover Charadrius ruficapillus LC resident (1995–2005) 212–2,500 birds A4i

Red-necked Stint Calidris ruficollis NT non-breeding (1996–2006) 2,500–11,700 birds A4i

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2009. The most recent assessment (2008) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
