Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An area of freshwater lakes, fen and wet meadows. An area of forest exists on an island in Lake Kalodiki. The surrounding slopes are covered with maquis.
Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Falco naumanni (breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include the dumping of waste (`Other' threats, above), the expansion of agriculture, uncontrolled water extraction, water pollution, and hunting. There are plans to develop tourism. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

International None300 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Valtos Kalodikiou/Margaritiou-Eleftheriou-Spatharaion, 300 ha).
