Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A deep oligotrophic lake with steep western shores. The northern part is shallow with small reedbeds (Phragmites).



Key biodiversity
The site is important for wintering ducks and geese.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is drainage and the over-abstraction of surface water (`Other' threats). There are plans to construct a road on the lake shore. The area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International NonePart of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Petalas/Amfilochias-Kechrinias-Papadatou-Stanou, 13,300 ha).
