Lake Agras


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
An artificial lake with extensive reedbeds (Phragmites). The adjacent hills are dominated by scrub, pastures and orchards with small areas of forest.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for species associated with reedbeds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Phalacrocorax pygmeus (passage), Pelecanus crispus (passage), Aythya nyroca (4 breeding pairs).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from agricultural intensification and clear- cutting of the remaining forests. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International High500 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Elos-Limni Agra/Agra-Nisiou-Bryton, 500 ha). 1,386 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Limni kai Fragna Agra, 1,386 ha).
