Site location and context
A mountain chain in the central-southern Alps. One of the largest areas of wilderness in the Alps, with almost no human settlement. The alpine habitats are relatively intact and undisturbed by man, ranging from coniferous woodlands (
Picea,
Larix,
Pinus) to grasslands, rocky areas, and many small lakes. Cattle-rearing and forestry are important human activities.

No major threats are present.

International Unknown10,000 ha of IBA covered by Regional Nature Park (Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino, 19,097 ha). Overlaps with SPA.
