Lago Lanalhue

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2010 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Black-necked Swan Cygnus melancoryphus LC breeding (2007) 1,000-2,499 birds A4i
Chilean Pigeon Patagioenas araucana LC breeding (2007) present A2, A3
Black-throated Huet-huet Pteroptochos tarnii LC breeding (2007) present A2, A3
Chucao Tapaculo Scelorchilus rubecula LC breeding (2007) present A2, A3
Ochre-flanked Tapaculo Eugralla paradoxa LC breeding (2007) present A2, A3

Patagonian Tyrant Colorhamphus parvirostris LC breeding (2007) present A3
Fire-eyed Diucon Xolmis pyrope LC breeding (2007) present A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2010. The most recent assessment (2017) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2017 not assessed high very low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no unset -

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Black-necked Swan Cygnus melancoryphus 1,800 / 2,000 (birds) 90 moderate

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Wetlands (inland) - poor (40–69%) poor

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Pollution happening now most of population/area (50–90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Little/none of area covered (<10%) No management plan exists, but the management planning process has begun Very little or no conservation action taking place very low

Habitats

Habitat % of IBA Habitat detail
Wetlands (inland) major (>10)
