Site description (2000 baseline)
The site includes a large expanse of land devoted to agriculture and cattle ranching, with large drainage channels that retain some aquatic vegetation. Many areas flood in winter.

Key biodiversity
This is an important site for migrant raptors and storks and foraging area for dispersing juvenile raptors. It is also a major migratory bottleneck, where about 85,000 Ciconia ciconia pass regularly in spring. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila adalberti (non-breeding), Tetrax tetrax (35 resident pairs) and Otis tarda (4 resident pairs).
