Kwobrup-Badgebup

Site description (2008 baseline):

Site location and context
The Kwobrup-Badgebup IBA supports at least 1% of the breeding population of Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo. The IBA boundaries are defined by two known areas of suitable nesting habitat and other remnant vegetation. The IBA is located in the southern wheatbelt of Western Australia and is comprised of wandoo woodland remnants and associated remnant vegetation. The Railway Dam, bitumen catchment, grain silos, recreation area and transport facilities located in the reserves are excluded from the IBA. The IBA has a Mediterranean climate.

Key biodiversity
Biome-restricted Red-capped Parrot and Western Spinebill have also been recorded in the IBA and are probably irregular visitors (D. Stojanovic pers. comm. 2008).

Non-bird biodiversity: Declared Rare Flora recorded in this IBA include Acacia grisea and Daviesia crassa.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Weed control within the reserves and buffering against edge effects from surrounding cleared land; revegetation and provision of corridors in surrounding farmland.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The Birds Australia Western Australia's Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo Recovery Project has been monitoring Carnaby's Cockatoo in this IBA for five years.
