The area is mainly made up of open bogs and a system of lakes.
Key biodiversity
This area is very important for breeding and migrating waterfowl and waders: Gavia arctica, Podiceps cristatus, Podiceps auritus, Podiceps grisegena, Botaurus stellaris, Nycticorax nycticorax, Cygnus cygnus, Anas plathyrhynchos, A.penelope, A.crecca, A.querquedulla, A.Acuta, A.clypeata, Aythya fuligula, A.ferina, Bucephala clangula, Fulica atra, Porzana porzana, Pluvialis apricaria, Vanellus vanellus, Tringa ochropus, Tringa glareola, T.nebularia, Actitis hypoleucos, Xenus cinerea, Phyllomachos pugnax, Lymnocryptus minimus, Gallinago gallinago, Scolopax scolopax, Numenius arquata, N,phaeropus, Limisa limisa, Larus minutus, L.ridibundus, L.cannus, L.argentatus, Sterna hirundo, St,albifrons, Grus grus. No specific counts had been made, but certainly more then 20,000 individual waterbirds occur here on passage. More research should be carried out to collect data on individual species.
