Site description (2000 baseline):

Lakes surrounded by arable land, in the lower valley of the River Danube near the town of Izmail.

The total number of breeding waterbirds is 30,000 pairs, with more than 70,000 individuals staging here during migration.

National None International Partial6,500 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Kugurlui Lake, 6,500 ha). 500 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Kartal Lake, 500 ha).
