Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A small, open reservoir near Konush village, with beds of
Typha, and a group of trees on its south bank, and surrounded by arable land. Land-uses include fish-farming, irrigation and hunting.
The site is important for migrating and wintering
Phalacrocorax pygmeus, and supports one of the most important breeding colonies of
Nycticorax nycticorax in Bulgaria.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main problems are the cutting-down of nesting trees at the colonies, the burning of reedbeds, hunting, and disturbance of nesting birds by people close to colonies.
