Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A small eutrophic lake surrounded by young deciduous forests in the heart of Häme province. The area of open water is small, with extensive marshes of
Equisetum,
Carex and grasses, which were harvested
by local people until the 1950s, and now are encroaching on the lake. The major human activity is large-scale hunting in autumn.
One of the best breeding areas for
Porzana porzana in Finland. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Crex crex (1-5 pairs, breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The major threat to the avifauna is nutrient pollution of the lake by run-off from adjacent agricultural areas
. A birdwatching tower is situated within the area. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

International High41 ha of IBA covered by Protected Area on Private Land (Koijärvi, 41 ha). 186 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Koijärvi).
