IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2016 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Yelkouan Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan VU non-breeding (2016) 150–200 birds A1
Eleonora's Falcon Falco eleonorae LC breeding (-) 6–8 pairs A3
Masked Shrike Lanius nubicus LC breeding (2016) rare A3
Olive-tree Warbler Hippolais olivetorum LC breeding (2016) rare A3
Subalpine Warbler Curruca cantillans LC breeding (2016) common A3
Sardinian Warbler Curruca melanocephala LC resident (2016) abundant A3
Rüppell's Warbler Curruca ruppeli LC breeding (2016) abundant A3
Krueper's Nuthatch Sitta krueperi LC resident (2016) rare A3
Black-eared Wheatear Oenanthe hispanica LC breeding (2016) abundant A3
Cretzschmar's Bunting Emberiza caesia LC breeding (2016) abundant A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2016. The most recent assessment (2016) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2016 moderate high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes habitat good

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Marine Intertidal good (>90%) moderate (70–90%) moderate

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Residential and commercial development happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Natural system modifications happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) low
Energy production and mining happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Little/none of area covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low

Habitats

Habitat % of IBA Habitat detail
Forest major (>10) Mixed woodland; Native coniferous woodland
Shrubland major (>10) Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis
Marine Coastal/Supratidal minor (<10)
Marine Intertidal minor (<10)
Marine Neritic minor (<10)
