Site description (2000 baseline)
A low-lying flood-plain situated between Körösnagyharsány and Mezõgyán, which is not subject to the effects of natural flooding. A large system of fish-ponds are managed for conservation, and are surrounded by extensive saline grasslands and arable fields. Human activities include sheep- and cattle-grazing, reed-harvesting (`Other' land-use, below), hunting, angling and birdwatching.
Key biodiversity
An important area for both breeding and passage waterbirds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (50-150 birds on passage), Otis tarda (5-10 breeding individuals).
