Site description (2001 baseline):

Site location and context

One of the largest peatlands in the European part of Russia consisting of forested and open bogs.

Key biodiversity

Even though available bird data is rather old and undoubtly incomplete, the IBA is one of the most important areas for birds in European Russia and is still in a natural condition.

Non-bird biodiversity: Plecotus auritus, Myotis brandti, M. dacucneme, Nyctalis noctula, Pipistrellus nathusii, Vespertilio murinus, Lutra lutra, Parnassius apollo, Dryomys nitedula, Vipera berus.Dactylorhiza traunsterneri, Cephalanthera rubra, Neottianthe cucullata.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity

25% of the IBA is covered by about 10 Nature Monuments and Kerzhensky Zapovednik.
