Kamanos Strict Nature Reserve


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large raised bog with some small lakes, surrounded by predominantly coniferous forests (mainly spruce Picea with some pine Pinus).



Key biodiversity
The site is important for mire-breeding species including Tetrao tetrix (with more than 50 displaying males, the largest concentration in Lithuania) and Pluvialis apricaria (min. 7 pairs), and supports large numbers of Grus grus on passage (up to 200 birds in autumn migration, 1995-1996).



Protected areas
National Partial International High4,300 ha of IBA covered by Strict Nature Reserve (Kamanos, 4,300 ha). 5,195 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Kamanos, 5,195 ha).
