Kalymnos, Telendos, Kalolimnos islands and surrounding islets


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
This site includes the north and east part of Kalimnos and islets from Telendos to Kalolimnos and Limnia. Kalimnos is heavily grazed and rocky.



Key biodiversity
An important site for breeding raptors and species associated with cliffs and scrub. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are hunting, overgrazing and tourist developments. A management plan was produced as a result of a LIFE project. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National None International Low175 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Vrachonisides Voreiou Dodekanisou, 374 ha).
