Kalamaki gorge and Zarkou mountains


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A rugged mountain dominated by scrub. The adjacent gorge and valley contains some riverine forest. Human activities include stock-raising and hunting.



Key biodiversity
This is an important area for resident raptors and species characteristic of open habitats.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from hunting. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International None1,750 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Pinindos, 1,750 ha).
