Site description (2001 baseline):
Site location and context
Kabitaï (Khabitaye) Forest Reserve is located south-east of the town of Wassou and north of Dubréka on the south-western edge of the Fouta Djalon, some 20 km from the sea and only a short distance from Konkouré (IBA GN013). The habitat is mixed wooded savanna and grassland, although some areas are cultivated.
See Box and Table 3 for key species. In addition, 10 species of the Guinea–Congo Forests biome have been recorded; see Table 3. The area has yet to be properly surveyed.
Non-bird biodiversity: None known to BirdLife International.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The reserve was gazetted in 1944. Threats include collection of wood for fuel and construction, and clearance for agriculture.
