Jiulong Shan Nature Reserve (Zhejiang)


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the south-western part of Suichang County. The IBA is part of Xianxialing in the Wuyi Shan mountains. The highest point is at 1,724 m, which is the fourth highest mountain in Zhejiang. There are 28 peaks above 1,500 m, and 35 peaks above 1,000 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Fokienia hodginsii, Liriodendron chinense and Tsuga tckekiangensis. Animals include Panthera pardus, Panthra uncial and Capricornis sumatraensis.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (2,000 ha) in 1983, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (5,525 ha) in 2003.
