Jinggang Shan Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Jinggang Shan Nature Reserve is located in Jinggang Shan City, and it has a core area of 3,266 ha. It is a northern extension of the Nanling mountains, and it lies within the central subtropical region. Forest cover is 87.6%, and there is prominent vertical zonation of the vegetation.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Fokienia hodginsii, Tsoongiodendron odorum, Bretschneidera sinensis, Emmenopterys henryi and Ginkgo biloba. Animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Manis pentadactyla, Capricornis sumatraensis, Viverricula indica, Viverra zibetha, Lutra lutra and Naemorhedus goral.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1981, and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 2000.
