Jigong Shan Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in Xinyang County, east of the Tongbai Shan mountains and at the western end of the Dabie Shan mountains. Forest covers 2,859.8 ha, about 90% of the IBA.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Changnienia amoena and Emmenopterys henryi. Animals include Andrias davidianus, Panthera pardus, Lutra lutra, Viverra zibetha, Viverricula indica and Naemorhedus goral.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1982, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (2,936 ha) in 1988.
