Site location and context
A narrow, 60-km stretch of river with fringing reed
Phragmites; the lower reaches have been dammed to form a fish-pond. There are three major settlements in the vicinity of Jegrièka, which is surrounded by arable land.
An important site for breeding and passage waterbirds.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include disturbance to birds, and the effects of fishing and hunting. One wet depression has been polluted by waste-water from a local cattle farm. Members of the Bird Protection and Study Society of Vojvodina undertook intensive ornithological research between 1989 and 1997.
