Jaroslavické rybníky ponds

Site description (2002 baseline):

Site location and context
The area of the Jaroslavické rybníky ponds are historically bound to the chateau of Jaroslavice. In its heydey, the Zámecký rybník (Chateau pond) was created, then the area was used for a long time as arable land and the pond was reestablished only in 1948. In the late 50's, the Hornírybník (Upper pond) and nurseries were built. The ponds are important as nesting area and a migration stopover. The diversity of the ponds in size, depth, way of use, and the extent of the vegetation creates an ideal environment for a large number of bird species with different habitat requirements. The Zámecký rybník, the largest pond has an area of 190 ha and an average depth of 1 m. Reedbeds are present only at its southwestern tip. The second largest pond (59 ha) is the Horní rybník with negligible littoral vegetation and long islets that came in to being in the 1980's when mud was extracted from the pond.

Protected areas
An islet with a breeding colony of night herons at the Horní rybník (Upper pond) is a temporarily protected area between April and August.IBA is coverd by SPA.
