IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2004 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Greater White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons LC winter (1993) 8,178 birds B1i
Red-crested Pochard Netta rufina LC winter (1992–1993) 931–1,060 birds A4i, B1i
Common Pochard Aythya ferina VU winter (1993–1996) 13,740–18,370 birds A4i, B1i
Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca NT winter (1992) 97 birds A1
Eurasian Coot Fulica atra LC winter (1992–1996) 25,500–190,690 birds A4i, B1i

A4iii Species group - waterbirds n/a winter (-) 21,853–211,482 birds A4iii

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2004. The most recent assessment (2016) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2016 moderate medium low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes habitat medium

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Wetlands (inland) good (>90%) moderate (70–90%) moderate

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Biological resource use happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management planning has taken place Some limited conservation initiatives are in place low
