Site description (2001 baseline)
Bare islands, and shallows, in the northern Caspian Sea.
Key biodiversity
Based on data published in the previous European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989), the site is important for breeding gulls, especially Larus ichthyaetus, and for staging (and wintering in favourable conditions) waterbirds (up to 750,000) including swans Cygnus (up to 14,000).
