Site location and context
This unnamed island is a small vegetated sand and rock island half way between the north-east tip of Groote Eylandt and the larger offshore north-east islands (Chatto 2001 island ref S048). The whole of Groote Eylandt and its seas, including this IBA, are within the Anindilyakwa Indigenous Protected Area.
Chatto (2001) made three counts during the Roseate Tern breeding season and recorded an average of 'low thousands' of this species. Up to 500 Bridled Terns were also recorded nesting and up to 20 Black-naped Terns.
Non-bird biodiversity: Marine turtles nest on the island.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
No known threats. The numbers of nesting seabirds should be monitored.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
This islet is included within the 'Tiwi Islands' site of conservation significance as classified by the Northern Territory Government (Harrison et al. 2009; Ward & Harrison 2009).
