Islands and islets of northern Sporades and northwestern coast of Alonnisos

Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A group of small, uninhabited rocky islands in the northern Sporades, covered by phrygana, except Piperi island which is wooded. Human activities include stock-raising and fishing.

Key biodiversity
This is an important site for species breeding on coastal cliffs, for migratory waders, raptors and passerines.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
All the islands are overgrazed. Disturbance from military activities caused the abandonment of a Larus audouinii colony in 1996 and 1997. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
