Islands and coast between Skælskør Fjord and Glænø


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Several larger islands with overgrown coastal slopes, dams, marshes, grassland and reedbeds, and some coastal areas with cultivated land and scattered settlements along south-west Zealand. Marine areas surrounding this IBA (previously included within it, following Grimmett and Jones 1989) are now included in Smålandsfarvandet (site 118).



Key biodiversity
More than 20,000 waterbirds use the site. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (max. 5, wintering). Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Sterna sandvicensis, S. paradisaea and S. albifrons.



Protected areas
National Low International High3,220 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Sea area between Skælskør Fjord and Glænø, 15,960 ha). 3,220 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Skælskor Nor and Glæno (waters south of), 17,120 ha).
