Site description (2004 baseline)
Large and complex site, consisting predominantly of wetland and forest. There is a raised bog Dizpurvs with forested dune peninsulas in the centre. A natural system of parallel ancient forested dunes interspersed with narrow strips of fens or mires and lakes extends to the north. Surrounding and delimiting the area are Trumpe, Stende and Irbe rivers with natural flood-plain meadows and oxbows. Listed as an IBA since 1994 [3, 4, 1]. Partially protected: there is a 87.1% overlap with Ances purvi un mezi restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
